The Holy Rollers

The Rev. Sven vanBaars, pastor of Abingdon Episcopal Church in White Marsh, led a small group of bicyclists on an expedition from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Washington, D.C., late last month. Known as the Holy Rollers, the riders spent three days on the Great Allegheny Passage covering 150 miles to Cumberland, Maryland. At that point, they picked up the C&O Canal Towpath, which took them 184 miles to Washington in the remaining three days. The bike ride gave participants the opportunity to face challenges together, work as a team to achieve a goal, experience nature, and take in the abundant beauty along the trails. VanBaars is shown with fellow riders Judy Dobson, Linda Tjossem, Brenda Claytor, Nancy Choquette (all from Abingdon), and Bill Baer (from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Ivy), from left.
