Supervisors to consider changes to county’s licenses for peddlers

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing Tuesday night on an ordinance amending the county’s code regarding licenses for peddlers and itinerant merchants. The regular meeting will begin at 7 o’clock, with the hearing starting at 8.

The amendments may include an umbrella license, covering all participating itinerant merchants, according to county attorney Ted Wilmot. The license may be obtained for any event at which more than two itinerant merchants participate in the same general location for a period of five or fewer consecutive days.

The proposed change also states the license tax imposed on peddlers or itinerant merchants or on peddlers at wholesale should not apply to vendors at any event sponsored by the county or the county school board, or any or all similar agencies or vendors at any event sponsored by any authentic religious or charitable 501(c)(3) organization.
