The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to file a motion with the Supreme Court of Virginia to obtain permission to file an amicus brief that positions the board as stating that the congressional redistricting election is unconstitutional and unlawful. The board took the vote during its meeting Monday night in the colonial courthouse. The referendum states: “Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections, while ensuring Virginia’s standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census?” Members of the public stated their arguments both for and against the county filing an amicus brief in-person, as well as through email and voicemail. “I would just like you guys to think about while you guys vote tonight to possibly go forward with the amicus brief,” said Matthew Nash of the Ware District. “So, with that bei...
