Supervisors deny marina rezoning request

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors denied a rezoning request that would have allowed for the development of 35 townhouse-style condominium units at Gloucester Point Marina on Sarah’s Creek during its Tuesday night meeting held in the colonial courthouse. The Planning Commission recommended denial of the rezoning request during its August meeting.
The applicant, Three Sheets Oyster Company, requested rezoning of 5.23 acres along Marine Way (at the end of the Starkey Drive cul-de-sac) from SF-1 (residential single-family) to PUD-1 (planned unit development). In addition to the 35 condo units, private boat slips for individual residents were proposed for the project.
Neighboring property owners attended the meeting to voice their strong disapproval of the proposed rezoning that would allow the development, citing concerns with increased traffic, diminished privacy and putting too much strain on the county’s infrastructure.
