The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a measure during its meeting Tuesday night in the colonial courthouse that will save many vendors at this weekend’s Daffodil Festival a lot of money.

Currently, nonexempt itinerant merchants (unsolicited salesmen) are supposed to be assessed a $500 annual fee to operate in the county.

County attorney Ted Wilmot said that Gloucester’s director of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Carol Steele was contacted in February by Commissioner of the Revenue Kevin Wilson. In an e-mail, Wilson informed Steele that all vendors participating in the Daffodil Festival will either need a copy of their business license or must pay the $500 fee.

With this provision seemingly never being enforced prior to this year, Wilmot said he quickly began working with Steele to amend the county’s ordinance to protect the merchants who will be participating in this year’s festival.
