State, local candidates take part in CircleUp meet-and-greet

Around 50 people attended a meet-and-greet for candidates held on Sunday by CircleUp Middle Peninsula at the Gloucester County Library.

Of those attending, around a dozen were candidates for local offices in Gloucester, Mathews and Middlesex, while two state-level candidates attended—Ella Webster, who is running for the 98th District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates, and Herb Jones, who is a candidate for the Virginia Senate’s 3rd District. Both Webster and Jones are Democrats seeking to unseat Republican incumbents, respectively, Keith Hodges in the house and Tommy Norment in the Senate. All candidates on the local ballots were invited to participate, according to a CircleUp spokeperson.

Only the state-level candidates were invited to speak to the gathering as a whole. After a presentation on election safety and remarks by Webster and Jones, the audience broke into three groups so the local candidates could discuss issues with their constituents.
