Local residents are invited to visit Machicomoco State Park in Hayes to enjoy the pleasant October weather, to fish, hike, bike, and take part in a number of programs scheduled for the month.
Among the special programs include Ghost Forest Tabletop from 4-5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, and Astronomy in the Park on the following day, Saturday, Oct. 11, beginning at 7 p.m.
In the tabletop program at the Interpretive Area, park rangers will lead a discussion identifying areas around the park that are facing the worst effects of climate change, and talk about things people can do at home or in the community to make a positive impact. Recommended for participants ages 8+.
NASA Skywatchers will facilitate the Astronomy in the Park program, which concludes about 10 p.m., as people learn about the moon, planets and stars. Those attending are asked to bring a flashlight, lawn chair and bug spray in the night of skywatching hosted by the Friends of Machicomoco State Park.
