On a snow flurried Sunday morning, God walked through His garden and picked a rose that was fully bloomed. The life journey of Ms. Sharon Vivesa Diggs, 65, of Danville, Va., transitioned from earth to reward on Jan. 17, 2016, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 16, 1950, in Mathews, Va., she was the daughter of the late Sherman H. Diggs and Lois Webster Diggs.
Ms. Diggs graduated from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, N.C., in 1973, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education. In 1980, Ms. Diggs received her Master of Science in Home Economics from Radford University, Radford, Va. She also completed additional course work at VA Tech and Cornell University. She was employed by the Virginia Cooperative Extension as a Unit Coordinator/Extension Agent, and an adjunct professor at Danville Community College.
Ms. Diggs was a member of the Camp Grove Baptist Church in Danville, serving as a member of the Trustee Ministry, Christian Education Director and Scholarship Committee Leader, Coordinator of the Vacation Bible School Mission Project, as well as various auxiliaries within the church. She was also a very active member of the Alpha Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and the Cherrystone Missionary Baptist Association of Ringgold, Va.
Those left to cherish her memories are her brother, Robert Diggs (Maxine) of Gretna, Va.; two nieces, LaShawnda Diggs Strambler (Christopher) of Bowie, Md., and Shannon Diggs of Richmond, Va.; her great-nephews and -niece, Asa Clark and Ashton Brown of Gretna, Chrislan Strambler of Bowie; and her extended family, Irene McCabe and Nathalie Johnson, of Hayes, Va., Leslie C. Willis (Wilnet) of Mathews, Leslie Willis-Mazes and her children, Amanda and Christopher Mazes of Richmond, Va., Sandra Spencer (Robert) of Gloucester, Va.; adopted nieces, Dr. Tenielle Walker of Alexandria, Va., and Ebony Brown of Gretna, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Ms. Diggs’ life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at 1 p.m. at the Cherrystone Missionary Baptist Association Center, 5551 Tom Fork Road, Ringgold. A repast will immediately follow at the Camp Grove Baptist Church. Interment will be held on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Cemetery, 9654 Buckley Hall Road, Mathews. The family will receive friends at Camp Grove Baptist Church on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, from 6:30-9 p.m. and other times at the residence of her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Maxine Diggs, 664 Zion Road, Gretna.
