Sen. Warner meets with local leaders in Medicare roundtable

U.S. Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) traveled to Newport News Tuesday to participate in a roundtable discussion with regional leaders in the health care industry about fostering better outcomes for Medicare patients requiring long-term care.

During the visit, which was held at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Warner heard a pitch from Kathy Vesley-Massey, CEO of Bay Aging, based in Urbanna, about a chronic care health care model that has been developed by the Eastern Virginia Care Transitions Partnership Foundation for Chronic Care Legislation (EVCTP). Bay Aging is the lead community-based organization for the EVCTP.

Warner also toured the hospital’s unit that specializes in acute care of the elderly and met with one of the patients there.

According to Vesley-Massey, the EVCTP is a formal community partnership of area agencies on aging, health systems, independent physicians’ groups, and other public and private health and human service providers. It covers 25 percent of east...
