Sen. Lewis visits with Mathews constituents

Mathews County’s representative in the Senate of Virginia, Lynwood Lewis (D-Accomac) had his first official opportunity to meet with his Middle Peninsula constituents on Monday, speaking to the Mathews County Woman’s Club, joining in a roundtable discussion with county officials, touring the county schools, and chatting with some local merchants.

Lewis is one of the newest members of the General Assembly, narrowly winning a special election held in January to fill the vacancy created when Ralph Northam was elected the state’s lieutenant governor.

At the woman’s club, he spoke on a variety of issues addressed during the latest session of the state legislature.

Lewis started out by joking in his introduction that he is “number 40 out of 40,” being that he is the newest elected member to the state senate seat representing the 6th District, taking his seat after a recount.
