Rt. 17 widening at Point among six-year plan projects

The Commonwealth Transportation Board approved more than 20 highway improvement projects in Gloucester and four in Mathews with the adoption of its six-year plan on June 19. In addition, one regional public transportation project was approved.

A long-range widening of Route 17 at Gloucester Point is among the projects.

Approving projects through fiscal year 2025, the board also issued estimated costs along with an anticipated timeline to conduct the work. In some cases proposals were deferred until after this time. The projects are listed by area of work.

Route 17, Phase I, widening 1.5 mile from Farmwood Road to Hook Road, $11,971,000, starting FY 2023 and going forward several years;

Route 17 from the Coleman Bridge to Route 17B, signal improvements, $2,801,000, partially complete, final work underway;
