The Mathews Rotary Club’s 10th annual Chili Cookoff will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Piankatank Ruritan Club building in Hudgins. The popular event is held each year during Super Bowl weekend, giving people a chance to stock up on chili before the big game, as well as enjoy some camaraderie and hot chili on a cold winter day. This year’s participants include the Mathews Museum, Mathews Land Conservancy, Mathews Yacht Club and Mathews Rotary Club, all vying for the titles of Best Chili Judge’s Choice and People’s Choice; both winners will receive a $200 prize. Also, there will be a $100 prize for Best Decorated Booth and a $100 prize for most tickets sold by any of the participants (excluding the Mathews Rotary Club). Members of the Mathews High School Beta Club will be assisting with the event to help fulfill their volunteer needs.
