RICHARD ‘RICK’ JAMES BRYANT

Richard “Rick” James Bryant passed away on May 30, 2022 at his home in Jamaica, Virginia. He was born on May 3, 1949 to John Edwin “Eddie” and Elsie Covington Bryant.

Rick graduated from Gloucester High School where he excelled at basketball and ran track and the Newport News Apprentice School where he also played basketball. Rick was co-owner and president of Hodges & Bryant, Inc., of Gloucester, taking over the family business started by his parents in 1948. Rick had many talents and interests including sports, boating, woodworking, and most recently, painting. He signed his paintings “Afar” as he said they looked better from afar.

Rick was predeceased by his wife and love, Judy Diehl Brady; his parents, Eddie and Elsie Bryant; his brother, John Edwin Bryant Jr. (Jackie) and his nephew, Craig Stuart Bryant.

He is survived by his son, Christopher Steven Bryant (Kim) of Lexington, Ky.; grandchildren, Emma Bryant of Nashville, Tenn., and Ella Bryant of Prattville, Ala.; his stepson, Kenneth Shawn Gill (Melissa), and grandchildren, Alex and Amber Gill, all of Bealeton, Va.; his sister, Phyllis Bryant Harris (Chuck); brothers-in-law, Richard Diehl (Fran) and Ronald Diehl (Sharon); sister-in-law, Jody Diehl, and sister-in-law extraordinaire, Bobbi Diehl Funk (Dusty), to whom we are eternally grateful for the love and care they gave Rick when he needed it most. Additionally, he is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and great lifelong friends.
