Rev. Wright addresses Mathews congregation

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, retired senior pastor of Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ and a polarizing figure during President Obama’s 2008 campaign, was guest speaker Sunday at the annual Men’s Day Celebration at Antioch Baptist Church, Susan.

Wright was the pastor at Trinity when President Obama was a member there. During Obama’s first presidential campaign, Wright’s rhetoric caused the candidate to resign membership in Trinity and disassociate himself from the pastor.

On Sunday, while saying he was just talking about the Bible, Wright repeatedly associated Biblical events with current events.

He talked of how the government in the book of Exodus "had a megalomaniac in the oval office—a fool of a pharaoh who thought he could do anything he wanted to do."
