Gloucester residents are one step closer to the possibility of gaining more insight into what a new upriver crossing of the York River may cost, look like and where it may be located.

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday night during its meeting in the colonial courthouse, giving the green light to a group of engineers to perform a feasibility study for the project.

Gloucester resident Charles Records, who has a background in engineering and development, first approached the supervisors last month about his willingness to proceed with the study at no cost to the county. However, he did ask that some staff time be allocated to aid in research purposes with the study.

"We think we will be able to provide what Mr. Records may need for this study," county administrator Brenda Garton said, after consulting with staff that are expected to be involved in the project.
