Planners recommend denial of Gloucester Point Marina rezoning request

The Gloucester County Planning Commission was met with applause after it unanimously voted to recommend denial of a rezoning request that would permit the development of 35 townhouse-style condominium units at Gloucester Point Marina on Sarah’s Creek. The meeting was held last Thursday evening in the T.C. Walker Education Center auditorium.
The applicant, Three Sheets Oyster Company, has requested rezoning of 5.23 acres along Marina Way (at the end of the Starkey Drive cul-de-sac) from SF-1 (residential single-family) to PUD-1 (planned unit development). In addition to the 35 condo units, private boat slips for individual residents are also proposed for the project.
Neighboring property owners voiced their staunch disapproval of the proposed rezoning that would allow the development, citing concerns with increased traffic, diminished privacy and putting too much of a strain on the county’s infrastructure.
