The Gloucester County Planning Commission has recommended that an amended proffer be allowed for a housing project proposed to be built on Route 17 adjacent to York River Crossing Shopping Center, Hayes.

During its March 2 meeting in the colonial courthouse, the commission decided to waive a public hearing on the matter, voted in support of the change, and forwarded the matter to the Gloucester Board of Supervisors. Planner Sean McNash said supervisors may decide to waive a hearing at their level or to schedule one at an upcoming meeting before taking a vote.

Anne Ducey-Ortiz, Gloucester’s director of planning and zoning, said that the proffer states the density of the project will not increase and that the maximum number of units will be 126.

The proffer said the development will consist of six three-story buildings containing garden apartments with 13 to 16 units per building and a section of townhouse apartments containing no more than 32 units.
