Jerry Parks of Gloucester shot this mostly white piebald deer while hunting on private land Friday evening in King William County, taking the deer with a muzzleloader. He said he’s been hunting it for about a year and a half. “I called her ‘Freckles,’” he said, estimating that the deer was roughly 75-80 percent white. Piebaldism is a rare genetic abnormality in whitetail deer, affecting less than 2 percent of the population. Even avid outdoorsmen may only see one once in a lifetime, according to internet sources.
