On Saturday, Rick Shutt of Hayes, photo at left, partnered with Linda Haller of Naples, Fla., to earn a medal in the 2023 Naples Pickleball Center Championship tournament. The pair took first place, winning gold medals, in Mixed 3.5 70+ Doubles bracket. The following day, Gail Shutt of Hayes, paired with Haller, photo at right, from left, to win gold in the Women’s 3.5 65+ Doubles bracket. More than 1,000 players from across the country participated in the tournament. Naples has a very large and active pickleball community. A major pickleball center, the tournament site in the Florida community has 64 courts.
