Opry to perform tribute toHee Haw on Saturday

The cast of Virginia’s Li’l Ole Opry invites its fans to join them in the cornfield on Saturday as the Opry Does Hee Haw. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 in the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School.
Hee Haw made its television debut on June 15, 1969, almost exactly six years before the Opry. Saturday’s show will feature the house band, Shades of Country, and all of the Opry singers, including some special guests, performing the best songs of the hit TV show, along with a tribute to the tunes (and corny jokes) of the late Uncle Jimmy Wickham.
“It’s been over 10 years since we have done a tribute show quite like this one. From the great songs of Hee Haw, like ‘Gloom Despair and Agony’ and the ‘Gossip Song’ to a yon of corny jokes, It should be a lot of fun,” said Opry president Lynda Smith, who added that the audience should be prepared to reminisce with songs from Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Ray Stevens, Roger Miller, Barbara Mandrell, George Jones, Tammy Wyne...
