New charges for Gores

Brian and Shannon Gore have been served indictments alleging one count each of felony child neglect and felony homicide in connection with the remains of a young boy found buried under a shed in their yard in 2011, Gloucester Commonwealth’s Attorney Holly Smith said in a statement released Wednesday. Smith did not say when the indictments were served.

The Gores are currently serving 30-year sentences for felony abuse and malicious aggravated wounding related to the maltreatment of their daughter. The girl was discovered emaciated in a makeshift cage in April 2011 when officers went to the Gores’ mobile home on an unrelated matter.

Investigators said the six-year-old had the body weight of a six-month-old when she was found unclothed and in squalor. A male infant in good condition was also found in the home.

After questioning the Gores, investigators returned to the property the next day and uncovered the remains of a young boy buried under a backyard shed. The Gores were initially charged with murder in connection with the remains but the charges were dropped in 2012 due to a lack of evidence at the time.

During proceedings against her last year, Shannon Gore said the boy was born about two years after her daughter, but later died.

Smith said the new charges are a result of additional information received about the remains. She said a Gloucester grand jury that met on May 5 was presented with evidence in support of the charges and issued the indictments. No trial dates have been set.
