Moth-ers Night Out to be held July 25

The Middle Peninsula chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalists and Gloucester Parks, Recreation and Tourism are sponsoring a moth event, “Moth-ers Night Out” at the Beaverdam Park Picnic Shelter, Fary’s Mill Road entrance, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 25 to celebrate National Moth Week.
Enjoy a nature walk, followed by a moth presentation by master naturalist and moth enthusiast Jan Towne at 8. At 8:30, participate in a moth syrup attractant contest and a Luna moth craft.
Attendees will have the opportunity to observe and identify moths attracted to black lights. The data collected will be entered into a national database.
This program is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required. Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and bring water and a flashlight. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Travis Land, a local herpetologist, will be on-hand to provide information on frog calls, as well as moth and bat identification.
