Middlesex holds first place in 241 baseball league

Middlesex holds first place in the 241 Alex C. Fitchett Memorial Baseball League, despite losing on July 27 to second-place Williamsburg, 5-4. Middlesex, 6-1, and Williamsburg, 5-1, have split a pair of games this season.

The game was part of Alex Christopher Fitchett Memorial Night. Alex Fitchett, who died July 27, 2019 at the age of 21, enjoyed playing in the Middlesex American Legion 241 Baseball League. When Alex died his family formed this memorial league, keeping the “241” in its title. With help from Horizon Trust, Alex’s brother Joey Fitchett and family got the new league started and it has grown to 10 teams in the Tidewater area.

Among local teams in the league, Gloucester holds a 4-2 record and Mathews is 2-4, as of Aug. 1.

Tonight, Gloucester takes on Middlesex at Lancaster’s Dream Fields. On Friday, Mathews faces Williamsburg at the Deltaville Ballpark. All games start at 7. Playoffs start the week of Aug. 15. For more information, see daily updates on Facebook at...
