MHS wrestlers gear up for regionals

The Mathews High School wrestlers traveled to Lancaster on Wednesday, Jan. 17, for the team’s last tri of the season against Lancaster and Middlesex. They defeated both teams, beating the Chargers, 59-12, and winning, 54-15, against the Red Devils.

Noah Wright beat both of his opponents at the 150 lbs. weight class. Ivan Schaible had only one match, due to a forfeit from Lancaster. He pinned his opponent from the Middlesex Chargers.

MHS wrestlers traveled Saturday to Cosby High School for the last duals meet before regionals. After wrestling five schools, the Devils fell short with a team record of 2-3.

Fabian Cardenas fought five matches, finishing the duals with a winning record of 4-1. As the MHS wrestlers close out their season, they travel to Lancaster High for their regional match on Saturday, Feb. 10. Top three wrestlers from each weight advance to state championships Feb. 16-17.
