MHS track teams compete at West Point meet

The Mathews High School boys’ track team placed third out of five teams competing at an April 19 meet at West Point, while the MHS girls came in fourth out of six teams.

For the boys, Ja’Marri Henderson came in first in the 110-meter hurdles (16.4 seconds), triple jump (39’7.5”) and high jump (5’6”) and second in the 300-meter hurdles (44.5 seconds). Cameron Stearns placed first in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:41.4. Freshman Keith Taylor placed second in the long jump (18’8”). The boys’ 4x800 meter relay team placed first and the 4x400 relay came in second.

Top finishers for the girls included Zoe Camp, who won the 3200-meter run (14:54.3) and Sarah Taylor, who won both the 100-meter hurdles (17.5 seconds) and the high jump (4’10”). Taylor also came in third in the 300-meter hurdles (56.2 seconds). Zoe Goodwin placed third in the long jump (13’4”). Joice Small had a throw of 67’5.5” in the discus to take third.
