MHS track competes at Charles City

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ track teams competed at Charles City last Thursday. Lady Devil Nora Suthard finished third in both the high jump and girls’ 100-meter dash, second in the 400 meter, and first in the long jump.

Captain Sarah Taylor won the girls’ high jump once again along with a first-place finish in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. Taylor also competed in the girls’ triple jump, finishing fourth.

Gavin Dustin dominated the 1,600 meter run with a 5:04 finish for the Blue Devil boys. Sophomore Jon Jenkins helped the MHS boys sweep the distance events with an 11:28 first-place finish in the 3,200 meter run.

Jerrell Johnson placed fourth in the 200 meter dash. Keith Taylor had a strong race with a first-place finish in the 400 meter dash and triple jump. Keith Taylor missed state qualifiers by only half an inch in the triple jump. He brought home third in the long jump and fifth in the high jump.
