MHS track athletes excel at K&Q meet

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ track teams traveled to King and Queen last Thursday to take part in that school’s inaugural meet.

Girls

The MHS girls placed second overall, with freshman Nora Suthard qualifying for state competition in the high jump with a leap of 4’8”. Suthard also won the long jump and both the 200- and 100-meter dash events.Sarah Taylor placed first in the 100-meter hurdles and the high jump, while Haley Hoell won the 300-meter hurdles. Elizabeth Moore brought home the win for the Blue Devils in the 1,600-meter run. Mathews also fielded a 4x400 relay team, placing in their event.

Boys

The boys had great success at King and Queen. Sophomore Keith Taylor won the 400-meter dash and triple jump, while finishing second in long jump. Jordyn Cosby tied for third in discus, throwing 107’6”. Freshman Jon Jenkins won the 3,200-meter run, with Seth James winning the 1,600-meter.
