MHS track athletes compete in West Point

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams traveled to West Point last Thursday, with Mathews athletes posting strong performances.

For the girls, Nora Suthard won five events (long jump, triple jump, high jump, 100m, and 200m). Jordan Sadeg won the 300H. Alivia Garrett placed second in the shot put.

For the boys, Donovan Forrest won the 110HH, 300H and the 100m. Jerell Johnson won the 200m, and placed third in both the 100m and the long jump; he posted a PR of 19’4” in the long jump.

Keith Taylor won the long jump and triple jump. Sam Miranda won the 1600m in a personal best time of 5:03. Seth James followed him for second. Chance Higginbotham won the 3200m with Jon Jenkins finishing second and James Allen Morgan taking third. Gavin Dustin won the 800m. Jordyn Cosby qualified for the state championships in the discus with a PR of 144’5”.
