MHS softball

The Mathews High School varsity softball team is still looking for its first win, after dropping its first three games of the season to Essex, Northumberland and Westmoreland. In the March 12 opener against Essex, Mathews lost, 18-1, with the Devil run scored on a Christiana Wood double followed by Addi Lowe’s single. Last Thursday, Mathews was held hitless against the visiting Northumberland Indians, who won, 12-0. On Tuesday, the MHS girls fell to Westmoreland, 24-4. In that game, Wood had a double with two RBIs and Addi Griffith added a single. At right, Wood pitches for Mathews in last Thursday’s contest. The MHS girls hope to get in the win column Friday when they travel to Rappahannock.
