It was a good week for Mathews soccer, beginning with the varsity girls’ 2-0 win over St. Margaret’s School and continuing on Tuesday with the varsity boys’ 7-0 victory over King and Queen.
MHS girls
The Mathews High School varsity girls’ soccer team shut out the visiting Scotties, 2-0, last Wednesday. The win evened out the Mathews girls’ season record to 2-2.
Adelle Hudgins provided the only scoring, netting both Mathews goals. The first came late in the first half, holding the game on the offensive side for the Blue Devils. The second goal was early in the second half, with the MHS defense and keeper not letting any goal score by St. Margaret’s.
MHS boys
The varsity boys’ soccer team traveled to King and Queen High School on Tuesday, where they defeated the Tigers, 7-0, with the game being cut short due to weather.
Leading the Blue Devils in goals scored was Salvador Cardenas with two goals, followed by Stanley Ouma, Elias Hidalgo, Noah Hurst, Chance Higginbotham and Andrew Greve each scoring one goal. The boys’ varsity Blue Devils now have a season record at 3-3.
All three MHS soccer teams will play Northumberland at home this Friday. JV has a start time of 4:45, followed by the varsity girls at 6, and varsity boys at 7:45.
