MHS rowers compete at Stotesbury Cup Regatta

The Mathews High School crew traveled to Philadelphia last Thursday to compete in the 96th annual Stotesbury Cup Regatta, held on the 1,500-meter course on the Schuylkill River.

The early time trials had MHS rowers Sydney Kollar and Scarlet Johnson face 27 other entries in their first Stotesbury experience. The duo finished 13th in the girls’ junior double, advancing to the top 18 semifinal. In the semis, the girls finished fourth with a time that did not advance them to the final but put them 11th overall out of 28 entries.The next event for the Blue Devils was Ben Stroud and Jaxon McDonald in the boys’ junior double which resulted in a time trial 13th of 37 entries and fourth in a tough semi, putting them at 10th overall in the event.

In their last Stotesbury Regatta competition, seniors Lillian Copeland and Macy Johnson faced a strong field of 21 entries including some fast Canadian entries. The time trial resulted in 11th out of 21 and the girls pulled fourth in their semi. ...
