MHS netters beat Chargers, Rams

The Mathews High School girls’ tennis team posted two victories this past week, beating Middlesex on the road last Wednesday, 8-1, and defeating the visiting Lafayette Rams on Monday, 7-2.

Middlesex

Leading the way against Middlesex was the Blue Devils’ first-seeded player Lyla Duff, who recorded an 8-6 victory. Following wins posted by Liberti Carter, 8-3, a dramatic comeback win by Lily Jarosz, 9-7, Ella Ward and Jayda Thomas checked in with 8-0 and 8-2 wins, respectively. The doubles teams of Duff/Carter, Brooke Fulford/Jarosz and Ward/Thomas all recorded wins. Exhibitions wins were recorded by Charlotte Ward and Delaney Boatman.

Lafayette

Singles victories against the Rams were posted by Duff (8-3), Carter (8-6), Jarosz (8-5) and Ward (8-3). Mathews swept the doubles with Duff/Carter (8-3), Fulford/Jarosz (8-5), and Ward/Thomas (8-5). Charlotte Ward and Boatman teamed up to post a victory in doubles exhibition.
