MHS harriers dominate at district meet

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams placed first in the Tidewater District meet last Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Newport News Park. The teams faced King William, Middlesex and West Point for the district title.

Seth James placed first overall with a time of 17:25. Next for Mathews was Salvador Cardenas with a time of 18:24, followed by Gavin Dustin (18:30), Chance Higginbotham (18:56), Jaxon McDonald (19:15), Jon Jenkins (19:15.10) and Andrew Greve (19:18). The boys finished with a team score of 29 points.

For the girls, Adelle Hudgins finished first overall with a time of 22:33. Anna Raub finished third overall with a time of 23:44. Next for Mathews was Melody Smith, finishing at 23:47, followed by Zoe Camp (24:17), Morgan Stearns (26:03), Lyla Duff (26:40) and Lilly Bane (27:14). The girls finished with a team score of 28 points.

Mathews will compete in the regional meet this afternoon at Newport News Park.
