MHS Hall of Fame ceremony to be held April 29

The Mathews High School Hall of Fame, a program that got underway months before the start of the pandemic, will return later this month as the school inducts its second class, with 25 outstanding athletes, coaches and contributors joining its ranks.

The 2019 MHS Hall of Fame was inducted in May of that year, with 33 inductees in its inaugural class. Since then, plans were put on hold due to COVID-19, and now, at last, the Class of 2020 can finally be recognized.

The program will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 29, at the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at MHS.

The 25 members of the Class of 2020 include one coach, 19 athletes and five contributors. The lone coach in this year’s Hall of Fame class is Matt Lawson. A 1990 graduate of Mathews High School, Lawson was the Blue Devils’ football coach from 1998 to 2003.
