MHS golfer at states

Mathews High School senior Thomas Hubbard competed on Tuesday in the VHSL state golf championship tournament at Olde Mill Golf Resort in Carroll County. Hubbard, shown here at states with coaches Toby Calloway (left) and Wayne Lewis (right), qualified individually to compete in the Class 1 state tournament at the Region 1A championship match on Sept. 27. At regionals, Mathews finished fourth out of seven teams with a score of 397. MHS did not qualify for states as a team; however, Hubbard qualified as an individual with a score of 88, finishing eighth overall in the region and third for individual qualifiers. Unfortunately, Hubbard didn’t fare as well as the state tournament, finishing the 18-hole course with a score of 104, placing 40th out of 60 competitors. Hubbard was named to the All-Region team, and senior Dawson Adams was named to the All-District team for Mathews.
