MHS girls win district tennis title

The Mathews High School girls’ tennis team captured the Tidewater District Championship, defeating West Point, 8-0, and Middlesex, 6-3, last week.

The Lady Blue Devils ended the regular season ranked second in the region. Individual winners in the West Point match were Faith Lewis, Chelsea Lowe, Taylor Wood, Lily Jarosz, Lyla Duff and Liberti Carter. The doubles teams of Lewis and Lowe, Wood and Duff and Jarosz and Carter rounded out the scoring.

At Middlesex last Wednesday, Lowe, Jarosz, Duff and Carter all recorded singles victories, while the doubles teams of Wood and Duff and Jarosz and Carter were victorious in doubles.

Mathews will play host to Middlesex in the regional semifinals starting at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, May 18.
