MHS girls fall to Tigers, 50-37

Friday the 13th wasn’t a lucky day for the Mathews High School Lady Devils, who lost a varsity basketball matchup at King and Queen High School, 50-37.

While the MHS girls came up short, they didn’t go without a fight. Two Lady Devils—seniors Sarah Ashbaugh and Reese Brock—led the team in scoring with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Rounding out the scoring for Mathews were Olivia Ashbaugh and Grayson Griffith (six points apiece) and Kayla Carr and Lyla Duff (two points each).

This Friday, the MHS girls will host King William. The JV game begins at 5:30, with the varsity tipoff at 7. On Saturday afternoon, Mathews travels to Washington and Lee High School in Montross to face the Rappahannock Raiders, starting at 1.
