MHS girls fall to Northumberland

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team fell in three sets to the visiting Northumberland Indians last Thursday, by scores of 25-13, 25-20 and 20-15.

Forty-one serves were forced across the net, with Lily Jarosz and Reese Brock serving perfectly. Two aces were secured by the Ashbaugh twins, Sarah and Olivia, with one ace each from Brock and Autumn Jenkins. Sixty receptions were accounted for, with Jarosz taking the majority and Chelsea Lowe not far behind.

Jenkins set up passes 45 times with 11 assists, boosting the kill count. Sarah Ashbaugh put 6 kills on the board. Mathews recorded 16 digs, with Brock taking half, and Ashbaugh getting four. Both Sarah Ashbaugh and Lowe each recorded two blocks.

The JV girls opened the contest, and although the small team has come a long way since the beginning of August, they still fell short of victory.
