MHS girls beat Panthers, fall to Indians, Cavaliers

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team started off the past week’s action on a strong note, defeating the visiting Charles City Panthers last Thursday in straight sets.
That was the Blue Devils’ high note, as the MHS girls dropped, 3-0, losses to North-umberland on Friday and King William on Tuesday. The team will look to get back on the winning track tonight when it travels to West Point. On Tuesday, Mathews will host Middlesex.
Charles City
The Blue Devils welcomed the Charles City Panthers into their gym last Thursday. The Blue Devils played their game very well. The first set was great, the Blue Devils got a seven-point run and won, 25-15. Mathews shut down the Panthers in the second set, not giving them a chance to get ahead. They won the second set, 25-10. The third set was much of the same as the Blue Devils kept the Panthers from scoring and won, 25-12.
