MHS girls beat Charles City

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team picked up a win Monday night, defeating the visiting Charles City Panthers in straight sets, 25-10, 25-18 and 25-5.

Standouts in the MHS girls’ win include Sarah Ashbaugh (two kills and an ace), Chelsea Lowe (four kills), Autumn Jenkins (eight assists, one kill and an ace) and Reese Brock (two kills). Also, Ashbaugh and Brock had strong games in passing, leading to the kills.

The MHS girls were scheduled to play Carver College and Career Academy last Thursday, but Carver was unable to field a team and Mathews won by forfeit.

The Lady Devils will travel to King and Queen today to face the Tigers in a JV/varsity matchup. The district tournament begins on Tuesday.
