MHS girls beat Charles City, West Point

The Mathews High School varsity softball team continued its winning ways this week, shutting out Charles City Panthers last Wednesday, 19-0, and beating West Point on the road the following day, 11-3.

Charles City

Three MHS pitchers—Emily West, Morgan Crittenden and Reese Brock—combined for a no-hitter to beat the visiting Panthers. Brock was also one of the top hitters, ending the day with a double and single. Chelsea Armistead chipped in two singles, while Olivia Coons (double), Joice Small and Lainie Wilson added one hit apiece.

West Point

Mathews kept the winning streak going on Thursday, with West striking out nine for a complete-game victory. Brock had a triple and single, Christiana Wood had a double and single and Armistead added two singles in the win. Small picked up a double.

Mathews will have a JV/varsity doubleheader at home today against King William, beginning at 4 p.m.
