MHS crew takes silver in doubles events at state regatta

Mathews High School crew got a little wet in the rain Saturday competing at the 2023 Virginia State Rowing Championship Regatta. Representing MHS at the event were, from left, Lillian Copeland, Bradley Murphy, Macy Johnson, Ray Hudgins, Savannah Hartlove, Sydney Kollar, Scarlet Johnson, Jaxon McDonald, Nolan Scheirer, Ben Stroud and Alex Slavkovic.

Members of the Mathews High School crew entered four events in Saturday’s 2023 Virginia State Rowing Championship Regatta, winning silver medals in the men’s and women’s junior double, a fourth-place finish in the women’s senior double and a 12th out of 18 finish in the men’s senior four with coxswain.

Held at Sandy Run Regional Park in Occoquan, this year’s competition included 52 Virginia teams running 66 races including finals in 30 different men’s and women’s events.
