MHS boys take second in states; girls place fourth

The Mathews High School boys’ cross country team placed second overall at the Class 1 State Cross Country meet at Green Hill Park in Salem on Saturday. The MHS girls’ team placed fourth overall at the state competition.

Seth James finished ninth overall and first for Mathews with a time of 17:30. He was also named to All-State for finishing in the top 15 individually. Salvador Cardenas finished next for Mathews with a time of 18:03, followed by Gavin Dustin (18:19), Chance Higginbotham (18:28), Jaxon McDonald (19:03), Andrew Greve (19:26) and Jon Jenkins (19:58).

For the girls, Adelle Hudgins finished first Mathews with a time of 22:20. Anna Raub finished next for Mathews with a time of 23:00, followed by Melody Smith (23:10), Zoe Camp (24:45), Lilly Bane (25:50), Morgan Stearns (26:47) and Lyla Duff (28:21).
