MHS boys’ soccer posts two big wins

The Mathews High School boys’ varsity soccer team had a pair of outstanding games this past week. On Wednesday, May 8, the Devils hosted King and Queen. The Devils controlled the game from the start, besting the Tigers, 8-0, by the mercy rule.

The first goal was scored by Salvador Cardenas, followed by two goals from Elias Hidalgo, one goal each from Seth James and Adam Greve, and a hat trick by Stanley Ouma.

After a strong win last week, the boys traveled to Carver College and Career Academy in Chester on Monday night for one of their last regular season games. The Blue Devils pulled a 9-1 win over Carver with two goals being scored by Ouma, and another two by James. Chance Higginbotham, Cardenas, Adam Greve, Andrew Greve and Akilesh Jaquez all scored the remaining seven goals.

The Mathews boys were scheduled to host Middlesex on Wednesday night for the last regular season game. Seniors were scheduled to be honored at both the girls’ and boys’ games that night.
