MHS boys fall to Chargers, Wolverines

The Mathews High School JV and varsity boys’ basketball teams each dropped a pair of games in recent action, falling to the visiting Middlesex Chargers on Friday night and losing on the road Tuesday to the Carver Wolverines.

The JV Devils fell to Middlesex, 38-27. The first half was back and forth as Jasai Williamson helped Mathews with a deep three to close the lead, as Mathews trailed, 12-8, at the half. The second half was close as Middlesex extended its lead, with Mathews not far behind. The Blue Devils slowly lost control as Middlesex extended its lead to 10 to secure the win.In the nightcap, the varsity Devils suffered a jarring defeat, 83-46. The game started out slow, but Middlesex held an 18-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. That margin was extended to 16 at the half.
