MHS booters go 2-1

The Mathews High School Blue Devils’ soccer program had a busy week, with both the varsity and JV squads playing three games each. The varsity Devils went 2-1 with wins over West Point and Middlesex, while the JV squad went 1-1-1, tying the Chargers. Both teams fell to Gloucester last Thursday.

West Point

Last Wednesday’s contest against the West Point Pointers began with the conclusion of the two teams’ first matchup, which was called due to weather tied, 2-2. The remaining nine minutes was played out, as well as two overtime period, but neither team managed a score and the game ended in a draw. In the regular game, the defense was just as strong. Finally, with eight minutes remaining, Mathews managed to get onto the scoreboard for the 1-0 win. Lucas Nunnally scored the lone goal as he converted a volley off a deflection from Tyler Jackson during a corner kick played in by Will Hutcheson.
