MHS baseball wins 2

The Mathews High School varsity baseball team picked up a pair of wins in recent action, beating West Point last Thursday, 5-3, and shutting out Charles City on Friday, 19-0.

In the West Point game, Daniel Moughon pitched five innings, allowing three runs, with Dawson Adams closing out the game on the mound. In the bottom of the sixth, Thomas Hubbard led off with a single, followed by Ethan Hudgins with a walk and Aidan West with a single. Adams drove in the go-ahead run.

Against Charles City, Ethan Hudgins tossed one scoreless inning, followed by Hubbard throwing two scoreless and hitless innings with six strikeouts. West followed up with two scoreless innings of his own.

The MHS varsity and JV baseball teams host King William today, starting at 4 p.m.
