MHS baseball on a roll

The Mathews High School varsity baseball team is on a roll, picking up three wins in recent action, the latest an 11-2 shellacking of the visiting West Point Pointers.

Justin Jones started on the mound in Tuesday’s game, which also served as the team’s Senior Night, recognizing the contributions of graduating seniors Timmy Dehoux and Noah Wright. Jones notched a total of 10 strikeouts in the appearance.

The Blue Devils got the lead when Danny Hogge, Jordyn Cosby, and Cam Matthews all walked. Zac Salvadori singled, scoring Hogge and Cosby. Wright also singled, scoring Matthews. Cosby and Dehoux collected two hits each. The Blue Devils had no errors.

Northampton

On Friday, the MHS boys traveled to the Eastern Shore to face Northampton. The Blue Devils beat the Yellow Jackets by the mercy rule, 14-4, in the sixth inning.
