MHS baseball beats Panthers, Pointers

The Mathews High School varsity baseball team earned a pair of wins this past week, beating Charles City at home last Thursday, 10-0, and dominating West Point on the road on Tuesday, 9-2.

West Point

Dawson Adams was the winning pitcher Tuesday night, throwing five innings. He gave up only one hit while striking out 13 and giving up both West Point runs (one earned). Colin Moore came on for 1 1/3 innings of relief, with Danny Hogge getting the final two outs.

Adams was 1-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Justin Jones was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Noah Wright was 1-for-4 with two runs scored. Hogge was 1-for-3 and Ethan Hudgins was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

Charles City

Mathews controlled the tempo of last Thursday’s game at the start, scoring runs in the second, third and fourth innings, while holding the Panthers scoreless. Mathews put the game away in the bottom of the sixth with two final runs to end the contest.
