Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue placed its newest medic unit, Medic 1, into service this week. GVFRS contracted with Horton Ambulance to remove the patient module from the department’s 2012 ambulance, update the module to meet current requirements, and then remount it onto a 2024 Ford F-550 4WD chassis. Remounting a module onto a new chassis provides a significant cost savings compared to an all new ambulance, according to GVFRS Captain Lewis Kerns. GVFRS personnel have spent the last month mounting and installing equipment into the truck, including the Stryker Power Load stretcher system.
